Have you ever heard of
this saying that is very popular with
“watu wa kutoka bara” (folks from upcountry) that ”Mombasa kuingia ni raisi na
kutoka ni vigumu” (meaning that going to
coast is easy but coming back home is hard).Of late I have been keenly
observing some of the folks from upcountry who have permanently settled in Coast,
they have over 20 years without going back to their homes, they left family
members and settled very far away and it’s
like they will never return back. They have now settled, they have bought plots,
built houses and they are now raising their children they have given birth with
ladies from coast.
Kenya Trend has sampled
several men who have never returned home after they left for the past 20 years
and here are the top reasons why they will never leave coast.
1.
Coast ladies are very romantic.
Upcountry folks say that
they cannot resist love from a coast lady. They are very romantic. They are
very submissive to men when it comes to the house. They respect man and he is viewed as the head of the family.
We talked with Wambua from Makueni who said that her lover by the name Fatuma
always welcomes him home when he arrives from work.”My bathing water is taken
to bathroom and after bathing I am treated with some foods as we engage with
talks with my wives asking me how I had spent my day. The next day my clothes
are there ironed. She is the best woman I have in my life”,said Wambua.
After from being romantic,
Coast ladies are also good cooks. They will take time to cook a very sweet dinner.
Cooking starts very early and by seven o’clock the food is ready. Coast ladies
are not like the Kamba ladies who know only to dance “Kativui” songs, added Wambua
as he smiled.
2.Coast
is the place to relax and enjoy the warm cool ocean breeze.
Nairobi is full of
bustle and hustle. People running helter skelter looking for money, some pick
pocketing,others are doing robbery with violence killing people. Come coast, people
are relaxed in beaches breezing and having good time. Take a walk along Mama
Ngina Drive and you will find men relaxed chewing khat with their cars. Just
enjoying life. Coast is all about eating what you have until its over then you
go to work.Mtwapa town is a city full of life at night. The city is full of
club goers who party from Monday to Sunday. Some spend the day sleeping and at
night you will find them in clubs. Its a popular tourists destination with
popular clubs like Lambada and Casurina.
