SECRET ABOUT LADIES WAIST BEADS

Have you ever heard of a popular Luo saying that goes like this “Kanungo e teko” which means  the waist of a woman is where the strength lies and if you want to get a man shake the waist well. Many people have never seen beads especially folks from the upcountry. Beads are mostly worn by ladies in coast and from their views; somehow beads are used to spice up the relationship between couples. Kenya Trend journalists travelled to coast to unravel the whole thing about the beads and how are they important to the culture of people from coast.

We made our first stop in Kenyatta Avenue in Majengo area where meet a lady by the name Fatma who is used to beautifies brides.Fatma said that beads or in local language ”shanga ” have been used  for ages to make the romance hot between married couples.They are used to keep the husband  and even the lady cannot have a side dish”mpango wa kado” while she is wearing the beads.Fatma continued to say that “These days beads are now  used as beauty. Beads are not for beauty. They should only be seen by your man only while you are in bed. The funny thing is that even some men are spotted tying the beads in their waists. Beads are for ladies only and not men.”No Lady can be involved in infidelity while she is still wearing beads.It is considered as an abomination,added Fatma.

We also got a chance to talk one of the traders who are popular in selling beads.He told us that he outsources for his beads from Tanzania where they are crafted   for purpose of spicing up the love making sessions in married and unmarried couples.”Its true that men likes the beads and a man can rarely resists a lady who is wearing beads.My beads are pricey and some of my customers  who are the twilight girls are able to retain their clients once they have canal exchange. ”

Now a days what these night girls do is that they lace their beads with charms  and once they get a “mzungu” they are able to retain him for a while until he moves out of the country,added the trader.

We made our last stop over at Kenyatta Public beach where we meat a lady by the name Shiro who told us how she has been using beads that have been laced with charms to keep her Europeans clients.”I realized that once I got a mzungu,I could only keep him for a week and that would be over.My friend used to retain his man for even four weeks.He  gave me a hint and I opted to do the same.Am now really enjoying because I am  able to retain my clients for a while.”That how beads are used to attract men.
